Setting
The story is played on the beach, of a foreign country which is not stated in the story. It started in the morning during the holiday.It was in summer.
The main character Jerry
Jerry had cooperated with people, when he tried to prove to the boys how tough he was. He was a young boy, who behaves funny toward her mother. He came up for breathe after going through the tunnel. And he likes counting on whatever he is doing. As the story develops Jerry thought that he was a big man and he no more asked her mother permission. He had more pride and mostly believes in him self. Jerry was a good swimmer and he was self-assurance.He was 11 years old boy.
Through the Tunnel Summary
"Through the Tunnel, “By Dorris Lessing Jerry, a young English boy, and his mother chilling at a beach they have came to many times in past years.The mother had a stripe bag. The beach name is not stated in the story, its in a foreign country . The mother was a window and always tries to look after Jerry .On the next morning, Jerry decided to explore a wild and rocky bay . His mother sends him on his way with what she hopes is a casual air, and Jerry leaves behind the crowded safe beach where he has always played. Jerry jumps in and goes so far out that he can see his mother only as a small yellow speck back on the other beach.Jerry sees some boys strip off their clothes and go running down to the rocks. The boys are of that place and they speak a language he did not understand. He watches the boys, who are older and bigger than him, until finally one greeted him by waving a hand and Jerry swims happily over. As soon as they realize he is a foreigner,they forget about him, but he was happy just to be with them.Jerry went to try his luck again and so he fastened a heavy rock on his neck and jumped into the water. He experienced breathing problems under water and so dived to the shore and ran to his mother asking her to buy him swimming glasses .After he grabbed the glasses from his mother and ran back to the beach to complete his aim. First he struggled controll his breathing and to exersice his lungs.When he saw that he had improved his breathing then he decided to pass thruogh the tunnel. He was very proud to pass through the tunnel with help of swimming glasses and regarded himself a winner.
